Fran was a stay at home Mom for many years. In more recent years she worked as a Library Clerk at Sullivan Community College in Loch Sheldrake, NY. The students were always appreciative of the help they readily received from her and sought her out when they needed her assistance. While working at the college, Fran was active as a CSEA Union Representative.
One of the roles she treasured was being a Eucharist Minister at Immaculate Conception Church in Woodbourne, NY. It brought her great joy to serve her parish in this capacity. For many years Fran was an AARP volunteer and while living with her daughter Christine in Rockland County she became an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
From 1950 to 1968, she and her children lived in Rockland County, residing in West Nyack & Stony Point. The Thomas family then moved to Sullivan County. In 2001, Frances returned to live with her daughter Christine in Haverstraw. In 2007 Frances became a resident of the Robert L. Yeager Health Center where she was cared for with expertise, kindness and dignity and for this wonderful care her family is most appreciative and grateful.
Fran enjoyed music, playing scrabble, spending time and traveling with her children. She traveled to visit them and went on vacation with them; she was always a welcome passenger. One of favorite past-times was to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV. Those who knew this special woman, especially her family, were privileged to be a part of her life and to experience her genuine gentle being. She lived her life with enthusiasm and determination to give all she could, spiritually and emotionally, to her much loved children and strived to set a positive example of a Christian Mother.
Frances was called to Heaven on Monday, January 19th, 2009; and family was by her side.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Fran’s name to United Hospice of Rockland, 11 Stokum Lane, New City, NY 10956 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 20 Squadron Blvd., New City, NY 10956.
